“We envision a world where all people hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and others.”

KIVA is a nonprofit that seeks to alleviate global poverty and connect people across borders by facilitating the provision of micro loans to grassroots entrepreneurs. Borrowers use their loans to improve their homes, go to school, or invest in their own businesses. Unlike a traditional nonprofit donation, KIVA loans are repaid by the borrower, and the donor can use these repayments to fund additional loans.

Donors select which causes to invest in through KIVA’s online database of entrepreneurs, which organizes hopeful borrowers by region, loan risk, and loan category. KIVA loans are made in increments of $25, and multiple donors may invest in a single borrower. It’s invigorating to see how donors from across the globe come together to support an entrepreneur’s dream.

At the Impact Guild, $25 of your first month’s payment goes toward a KIVA microloan. We want our members to become invested in the global community of entrepreneurs, so we encourage them to share about their KIVA experience through our #kivagiveback Slack channel and interactive map of donations.
