+Acumen empowers citizens around the globe to be agents of social change by offering free and low cost online courses on social innovation and human centered design. These courses enable individuals to better understand social injustice and increase their ability to design impactful solutions. Examples of these classes include social entrepreneurship, adaptive leadership, and human capital strategy. Based in 190 countries, +Acumen believes in communal action, purposeful commitment, and mutual support of change makers. Their courses emphasize the necessity to be a mindful, compassionate global citizen who seeks to build community through conversation.
At The Impact Guild, our vision to create a collaborative community of social impact oriented people parallels +Acumen’s goal to connect students and volunteers to take action and tackle poverty. Several members are currently enrolled in +Acumen’s Human Centered Design course, which guides students through the research design process, from ideation to implementation, to create tailored products and services that address social problems. The course requires us to have engaging conversations, immerse ourselves in unfamiliar terrain, build empathy, and generate innovative ideas to solve complex human problems.
